Before
entering the teaching and consulting professions, Dr. Archer worked
for General Motors, Deering-Milliken, Burlington Industries, Philadelphia
and Reading Corporation and Northwest Industries. His industry experience
includes positions of Plant Manager, Senior Industrial Engineer,
Corporate Director of Industrial Engineering, and Internal Management
and Consultant. He has also been a first line supervisor and a production
manager. Dr. Archer has served on the Board of Directors of several
business firms. His consulting firm has been engaged by some of
the leading companies and public agencies in the nation.
Dr.
Archer is also an author, speaker and lecturer. He has published
over forty articles in journals such as "Management Review," "HR
Magazine," "Industrial Engineering," "Personnel Administrator,"
"Supervisory Management," "Technical Horizons Journal," and numerous
other journals and magazines. He is also the author of books, published
monographs and book chapters. His
works are widely sited in management and organizational behavior
textbooks. As a speaker, Dr. Archer has recently conducted seminars
and conferences for a number of Fortune 500 companies, for several
of the nation's largest professional societies, for numerous small
and medium sized firms, and has been the principal speaker on programs
conducted by business, public, civic and professional organizations
throughout the United States.

Dr.
Archer has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors. Some
of these include: Distinguished Professor Award from Winthrop University;
Distinguished Professor Award from the Winthrop Alumni Association;
Human Resource Professional of the Year Award by his SHRM Chapter;
Phi Kappa Phi Excellence in Teaching Award; Distinguished Service
Award from his SHRM chapter; Most Outstanding Publication in Personnel
Award and Most Outstanding Personnel Practitioner Award from Region
V of SHRM (the Latter award was for his work in the measurement
of motivation and his work in job evaluation and performance appraisal);
Distinguished Service Award from Lion's International; two national
Outstanding Student Advisor Awards from SHRM and several other distinguished
service awards. He is listed in Who's Who in the South and Southwest,
Men of Achievement, Dictionary of International Biography
and a number of other Who's Who publications.
Dr.
Archer is a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Beta Gamma Sigma, the Society
for Human Resource Management, the American Psychological Society,
the American Statistical Association, the Society for Quality Control,
the American Institute of Industrial Engineers, the National Society
of Professional Engineers. He has been a member of the International
Personnel Management Association, the American Management Association,
and the American Compensation Association. He has been commended
for his service as a member of the industry task force for the U.S.
Department of Commerce.
